When we moved into our first home in November 2010, there were a few things we knew we would want to change: (1) the carpet, (2) the color of the fireplace, (3) the BLUE porch! However, having moved in with a 13 day old, becoming confident or motivated as do-it-yourselfers has been a slow process. We've done some basics - changing out shower heads, having the house pressure washed (thanks Daddy!), working on the yard... but that's about it beyond the cleaning and organizing. Well, the time came when we could work on the most bothersome eyesore - the PORCH! My father came up and pressure washed the porch (HOPING we could get that blue paint off... but it is, apparently, amazing paint that STICKS!) - so, with a clean porch, we found a product that we knew would look good, cover the color, and hopefully hold up outside. My parents used something similar in their garage and it looks amazing. Since the porch was cleaned just a couple of weeks ago, we wanted to get it painted/finished sooner than later. Even with 104 weather outside, we just had to complete this project - so today was the day! We SO appreciate the previous owners investing in the add on for this porch - most of the homes in our price range and location have just a small concrete slab for a back porch - but the first owners of our home extended the porch AND the roof so we have a great back patio area... however, their color choice of BLUE just has NOT suited us at all... and our friends and family have agreed - it is not attractive.
I am SO proud of my husband - being new homeowners, we both get nervous about things like painting or renovating. He did an amazing job on the porch while I entertained our son and worked on balancing our checkbook! He had done some cement repair on some chips along the joints in the porch a couple of weeks ago and then did the paint/finish today. Once he had just about finished and was so hot he had to have a break, I went out and finished up the edges and touched up some trim. We are very pleased with the result and just hope it holds! If not, we'll find something else, but we love how this "new" porch looks so far!

MUCH better!! We love the tan color and the speckled finish! It suits us and coordinates well with the exterior color of our home!
We hope next to paint a couple of rooms and a hallway (thanks to a "crayons on the wall" incident) and eventually have the exterior of the house painted... and there is still our brown fireplace to contend with and, ultimately, the carpets... but, one project at a time! And we are happy with this first one!
