We started blogging our life as best friends, husband and wife, in 2006 shortly after we got married. Once we had children, I created a new blog for our growing family. This is our blog sharing the story of our life: beginning with our first pregnancy and our journey as parents to our beloved firstborn, BB1, who arrived in our world perfectly on 11.5.2010 and his precious sister, BB2, born on 10.6.2012, our sweet third baby, BB3, born 2.3.2015, our 3rd vivacious daughter, BB6, born on 5.1.2018 and our 2nd living son and final Bruffey Baby, BB8, born 6.23.2021. We also love our 3 greatly missed babies in Heaven, BB4 (born in Heaven at 5 weeks 5 days on 10.8.2016) BB5 (born still at 16 weeks on 2.5.2017), and BB7 (born in Heaven at 7 weeks 3 days on 10.23.2019). I will share my stories of our family, of being a wife, a mother, a home manager, a friend, a woman, a Hope Mom, and a person pursuing hope in Christ through life and death, joy and pain. Welcome to our journey!

"Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you."

Jacob's trip to the ER

9/11/11

Starting at about 3pm on 9/11/11, Jacob started throwing up and it just got worse. We called his ped's after hours line at 5:30pm after he threw up and the nurse called back around 5:45pm. She gave us instructions on what to feed, not feed, how often, what signs to watch for, etc... so we began the vigil, but several hours later he was getting worse and heaving so bad his face turned red and he was crying, and throwing up about every 10 to 15 minutes. We wanted to take him to the ER, but called the after hours line to discuss with the nurse as we loaded him in the car. She agreed he needed to be seen since he is so young and dehydration a big concern, so off we went. We arrived around midnight and were seen by the triage center and ushered to a room fairly quickly due to his age and the fact he threw up during triage and the nurse saw him heave and how painful and bad it was. She said she just couldn't let him go through that sitting in a waiting room. Praise the Lord for this provision - we got to be in a room while we waited for the doctor about 4 hours. By 4:30am he had been given zofran (about 1:15am) and then after about 30 min, they started having us give him pedialite (1/2 oz every 10 min) - he took 4 oz and tolerated it with no throwing up and cried for more each time we had to stop at 1/2 oz. Finally around 4am we saw the doctor who gave us a RX for zofran as needed but diagnosed Jacob with a virus/stomach bug that started in his throat (it was all red) and spread to his tummy and wreaked havoc. We have fluids coming out everywhere, which will be the case as this illness runs its course the next 3 to 5 days. I am so grateful for modern medicine and seeing Jacob not throw up for a few hours was such a blessing - his poor little body. The doctor could hear with his stethoscope that his gut was irritated still. But he's on the mend and now asleep - and I'm heading to bed asap! Jacob was so brave and didn't fuss - handled it better than I would have. He got restless and would fuss a bit near the end because he was so worn out and just wanted to lay down and sleep, but I was amazed at how well he handled the whole ordeal!

Waiting on the zofran to kick in. Mommy pointing out the koalas and spaceships on Jacob's gown.

Jacob started to seem a bit better and was able to keep down some pedialyte and even played a little peek a boo with Daddy.

He wouldn't sleep the whole time in the ER (over 4.5 hours) (we think that gown was tooo uncomfortable - as soon as we put him in a clean onsie he was nodding off); but he crashed as we were walking out and stayed asleep as we put him in his carseat! What a trouper!

9/12/11

Since we got home and to bed about 6am (Jacob) and 7am (Mommy and Daddy), and Jacob was still so sick, he woke up ever 1.5 to 2 hours and was up by 11am for the day, so we snuggled in bed and he took frequent naps all day.

Jacob had appointment with his GI today and to make sure no dehydration and check all his levels, he had blood drawn for the first time (from his little arm)... so hard on him AND his Mama! (see the little wrap on his right arm); he has been fever-free aince about 8:30am! but still his tummy is...well... a MESS...and he is not playful, just tired and sleeping a lot. we are nursing and giving pedialyte often per his doctors. prayers welcome! main concerns: (1) staying hydrated!! (2) controlling fever (3) tummy pain and diarrhea (hey - that's the truth of
it... just being real).

i appreciate the prayers and concern for our precious boy!

9/14/11

What a journey! Jacob is still sick, but about 4pm today I really saw an improvement. After a nap, he was a bit playful & has been talking more & even smiled & giggled a couple of times! His tummy is still a mess & he threw up again this morning :( I can't wait for us to reach that 24 hours sans vomiting milestone! And, well, sans other messes as well! I see him on the mend & hope by week's end he'll be better... a nasty illness!
